Gas pressure testing is a fool-proof way to make sure your furnace is receiving the optimal amount of gas to heat your home. We simply hook up one of our rookies and have him blow air through a relief valve.
Okay, in reality, it’s a bit more complex and involves some strict guidelines, as you can imagine.
In a nutshell, we shut off the gas at the meter, then connect an adapter to the meter and disconnect all the appliances connected to the gas line. The adapter at the meter allows us to pressurize the line with compressed air to a certain PSI, then we check the line after a certain amount of time to determine if there’s any loss of pressure.
Anything involving gas is pretty dangerous stuff, and we can’t stress enough that this be handled by a professional — whether it’s Al’s or another outfit.
