Solar Assisted A/C — A New Technology Requires Only One Rooftop Solar-Collector
ThermX™ — 1 Thermal (heat only) Solar-Panel — Coupled With Their Emperor (model) Variable-Speed A/C System
ThermX™ Residential Cooling & Heating System Consists Of:
- 1 Outdoor unit — Heat pump for cooling & heating.
- Up to 5 separate indoor cooling-units — one installed in each room.
- The indoor units can be wall-mounted — or built into the ceiling.
- 1 ThermX™ (6-Foot X 6-Foot) Thermal (heat only) Solar-Panel is needed — instead of 20 or more PV Solar Panels (that convert solar into electricity).
- Up to 64% more efficient than an older SEER-10 A/C.
- Heat Pump cooling operates between 50–118 degrees outdoor temperature.
- Heat Pump heating operates down to -4 degrees outdoor temperature.
- This system can also provide hot water.

The Solar-Panel Can Be Added To Some Existing A/C Systems.

The Outdoor Unit Compressor’s Two Jobs Are: Raise The Refrigerant’s Temperature & Pressure.
- The compressor raises the refrigerant’s temperature. When the refrigerant leaves the outdoor unit’s compressor — it is a hot vapor at 120° to 140°F. This is to ensure that outdoor air will always be cooler. The outdoor air must be cooler for the heat within the refrigerant to be released into the outdoor air.
- The compressor raises the refrigerant’s pressure. This causes the refrigerant to flow into the home (where refrigerant is at a lower pressure). Then heat (from inside the home) is transferred into the refrigerant while it flows through the indoor cooling-coil (inside the furnace or ductwork and can’t be seen without removing a panel.

ThermX™ Adds A Heat-Exchanger Between The Outdoor Unit’s Compressor And Its Condenser Coil.
The ThermX™ Heat-Exchanger adds free heat (from the sun) — to the refrigerant. The Heat-Exchanger uses heat (from the solar-panel) to heat the refrigerant. The more heat provided by the solan-panel — the less the compressor has to run to heat the refrigerant.
The majority of the compressor’s job is to heat the refrigerant. This System dramatically reduces how hard the compressor must work. Adding heat allows the compressor to work less — and use less electricity. In hot enough outdoor temperatures — the compressor may function mostly as refrigerant-pump — because most or all needed heat is coming from the solar-panel.
During winter (with the Heat-Pump in heating mode) — some heat comes from the solar panel. The more the sun shines — the less heat the Heat Pump’s compressor must add. The ThermX™ system also has a Solar Bypass-Valve — to bypass the solar panel (when heat-pump is in heating mode) — when it’s dark outside.

1 ThermX™ (6-Foot X 6-Foot) Solar-Panel can be mounted onto a variety of roof surfaces. The panel can also be ground or pole-mounted — to ensure it’s in direct sunlight. The ThermX™ solar-panel adds heat — which otherwise must be generated by the A/C’s outdoor unit’s compressor. 80% of the electricity is consumed by the compressor. **
The solar-panel accelerates the heat-transfer as the refrigerant turns into a liquid (after going through the outdoor unit’s (condenser) coil, and into the home. This increases the speed of refrigerant-flow. As a result, the cooling ability of the indoor cooling-coil *** (evaporator coil) is increased.
To reproduce the same average electricity savings with a traditional A/C + Solar PV panels (PV panels convert solar into electricity) — it would take 20+ PV Solar Panels to equal 1 ThermX™ thermal-heat (heat only) solar-panel. **
Today’s two-stage and variable-speed central A/C outdoor unit’s match their cooling-output closely to the home’s current cooling needs. With the heat provided by the solar-panel — the variable-speed A/C slows down. A two-stage A/C unit can run at its lower stage (lower cooling output). At a lower speed or stage — the A/C outdoor unit uses less electricity. Note: 80% of the electricity is consumed by the compressor. **

Ductless A/C System Components
There aren’t many components to ductless HVAC Systems. There is an outdoor unit — plus an indoor cooling-unit in each room (with its own thermostat). The indoor units can be mounted on the wall or recessed into the ceiling. The outdoor unit is connected to each indoor unit with a refrigerant line — there is no ductwork.
Ductless HVAC allows the owner to choose the temperature for each room. The cooling & heating can also be left off in selected rooms. Unlike a ducted HVAC System — closing off rooms has no effect on a ductless system.
